Ironing on wadding and procrastinating.......

My first attempt at Iron on wadding....
Kerry from Cottage on the Hill told me she gets good
results by spraying the wadding lightly with water
so with the essentials supplies on hand I gave it a whirl.....
I put a folded table cloth over my table and positioned the
wadding and quilt top and ironed to my hearts content....
I then had a dig around under my bed in some tubs(I will be
so glad when all my sewing things are set up in my little
"Sewing Studio" and not stashed in various places around the
house) for some backing fabric that would be a suitable match...
This was perfect for my little project and hopefully
will hide a multitude of hand quilting sins....
A quick flip over and another light spray....
And then some more ironing to adhere the backing....
The great thing about this wadding is that you can
peel it back and reposition if need be....
So there we have it....All sandwiched and ready for quilting...
So here's the question....Do you think I should also
pin through the layers before I start quilting?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated because this
is my first experience with iron on wadding....Eek!
I am a little bit spooked by this project re the
wadding and wether or not to hand quilt....
Too much procrastination and not enough Mojo....
Until next time, Happy Stitching

Kate

What a gorgeous quilt Kate. I have started two patchwork quilts. One 23 years ago for my brother's 21, he is now 43! My second one a few years ago! Both are unfinished! I need a sewing room or better yet a studio where I can leave it set up. This is why I love my knitting and crochet as they are easy to put away and I can also do either at night while my family watches TV and I can sit alongside them. One day! I'd love to see how this iron on wadding goes. Have fun. xo

I used iron on before, without pinning. However there is one thing to watch with iron on wadding...your needle.. it gets a bit sticky, so take it out and wipe it clean with metho or something like that after a few rows.

Hi Kate, I can't wait to hear what you think of it. When you ironed the top down did the bottom stick to your table cloth, that was something I thought about when I saw it and was worried it would tick incorrectly. When asking about it at our LQS they told me to pin but I think I'd trust Chooky, she would soon tell you if it worked or not.

I haven't used it either. I usually pin mine, but if it seems stuck enough it should be ok. I start quilting from the centre so if there are any ripples they move outwards as I go. Good luck!
