My Backyard Patio/Pergola

Doing a Happy dance this week because my
Patio/Pergola that I signed up for on the 15th of December
is finally getting built. The deal was a couple of weeks for
council approval and it would be built in early January...
Yeah Right!!!!! I think he was Dreaming! Isn't it amazing
what these builders promise you to get you
to sign on the dotted line......
Anyway Wednesday morning bright and early they arrived
and unloaded all the necessary bits for the two solid roof parts,
I so did not want to go to work because I love this sort of thing
and would have happily been the trades assistant for the day....
I am so sure they were glad I was driving out the drive....
Ha Ha...
With any project I love to take before and after pictures, since
the big tree was removed from the back of my house it has been
very open and gets all the afternoon sun. A patio of some sort
was always on the to do list and because of the tree removal
it is now happening sooner rather that later.....
I'll never get my new kitchen at this rate!!!!
The area was already paved when I purchased the house
and the gardens were there but a mismatched couple of beds
filled with all sorts of plants. I fixed those up when I first moved
2 years ago (Wow! I really can't believe I have lived here
2 years already) I am hoping that the plants will still do
 well under there.....
Must remember to water them as they won't get the rain.....
This is the driveway side, I am moving the water tank from
there completely and it will be a solid roof that fits in the
corner out to the existing sunroom with screening
 on the driveway side....
There's the "Studio" over the back nestled under
a big old silver birch tree......
My old neighbor Max calls it little house on the prairie......
This part here will be screened off for added privacy from
the street, the BBQ and a bench will go under this section....
I am hoping to do something like this there, I have been saving
this idea for just the right spot and I think I have found it....
I already have a few pieces of tin that I have collected and I
am on the hunt for some more unique pieces....
Before side view from the "Studio"
The start of the main solid roof going up, there will be two
solid roofs and an open pergola section on the driveway side,
I plan on planting climbing plants to creep over it eventually.....
I would have liked to go with a timber set up but really don't
want to be swinging off a ladder in 5 years painting it so I
went with the Stratco type that I will never have to worry
 about maintenance wise....
The pergola section will have decorative ends like an
old timber style one so should add some character, I didn't want
just a big span line roof across the whole length of the
house and if it turns out how I have it envisioned,
I will be a very happy girl....
I ducked home at Lunch time on Wednesday and this is what
greeted me as I walked around the side of the house....
Yay! excitement building here!!!!
The main roof is up held by support poles, I would have
thought the posts would have gone in first. I hope we don't
get one of those storms that we have been having
 before they finish.....Eek!!!!
The gutters and side beams still need to be added to this part...
This is how it looked yesterday when I walked around the side
after work, it's a slow process because I am sure the builder
has triple booked himself with jobs and has contracted a
guy to complete this part for him.....
He has a couple more helpers today so I hope they get a bit
more productive cause I am sooooooooo impatient! Ha Ha...
So best go supervise, annoy, pester, check out
 how they are going today.....
They say "Good things come to those who wait"
Don't they know I want it all and I want it now.....LOL!

Have a great weekend!

Until next time, Happy Stitching

It will be a great addition to your house, Kate. Just like adding an extra room. I love the idea of the patchwork wall.

Hello Kate,

What a difference this will make to your lifestyle. Love the eco friendly recycled wall. Do you watch Gardening Australia? they had a great story on recycling in the garden.

Happy days.
Bev.

I am excited for you, Kate! And looking at the pictures, it showed that the pergola that you were about to build was a promising one! I don’t know about the others, but pergolas remind me of gazebos. Though I guess a gazebo is more of a stand-alone thing compared to pergolas. Anyway, I hope that you are quite satisfied with how it turned out. Cheers!
